Travel question--Mountain Quiltfest

On March 9, Nancy and I are leaving to teach at the 15th annual Mountain Quiltfest in Pigeon Forge, TN. We will be teaching several classes, doing a lecture and participating in a panel discussion with Klaudeen Hansen and Becky Goldsmith. It sounds like a lot of fun especially since there is a merchant mall to buy goodies. Our question though, is never having been to that part of the country in the spring, let alone any season, what type of weather do we have to look forward to--what to pack? Also, we would appreciate any advice as to how to spend our limited spare time, although we come in on Monday and don't have any responsibilities that we know of until late Tuesday afternoon. Are there any quilt shops in the area? Great restaurants? Please advise and thanks in advance! Also, if you are in the area or taking classes, stop by to see us.

We're delighted you're coming to Pigeon Forge. What to wear? Everything is casual here, so you don't need to dress to impress. Layers are the rule this time of year. We had a golf shirt day last week, but that was exceptional. If you have sweaters and a windbreaker, you should be fine.

Dining offers you lots of choices. Two local favorites are the Old Mill Restaurant and the Pottery House Cafe. Both feature baked goods made with the products of the Old Mill, which has been grinding away since 1830. And, yes, the mill is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Bennett's has fine barbeque, the Alamo has great steaks, Bullfish has an unexpected seafood selection. You get the idea. You'll have lots of choices.

You'll find loads of local information at www.MyPigeon

Hi Lynda and Nancy: I'm glad you are coming to Pigeon Forge. I spent many wonderful hours and money at your store when I lived in Aurora. You need to dress in layers as the temperature in the classrooms will vary. I work with the city of Pigeon Forge in working at the show. Pigeon Forge treats it teachers great, and I'm sure you will have a good time. If you get a chance, the Great Smoky Mountain National Park is a must. Plus it doesn't cost to get into the park. See you in class. Kathie Weatherford

We usually go to Pigeon Forge in November. Everything is casual and layers are key. I'd spend any spare daytime hiking in the is gorgeous!

We make time to eat at Chop House. We love it!

There is a well known quilt shop in Seiverville called The Cherry Pit. Seiverville and Pigeon Forge run together. It's in downtown and very easy to locate. Wish I were there!
